Funds and Sources

Use funds and sources to understand where gifts belong and where they came from.

Written by Jonathan Marbutt

Funds and sources help your team organize giving.

Funds

A fund usually answers, "Where should this gift be used?"

Examples might include a general fund, building fund, event fund, or program fund.

Funds live in the Fund dropdown, so you add a new one from there instead of a separate settings screen.

  1. Open any record that has a Fund field, such as a contribution.

  2. Open the Fund dropdown.

  3. Select Manage List.

  4. Add the new fund and save.

Only administrators see Manage List, so ask an admin if you don't see this option.

Sources

A source usually answers, "How did this gift come to us?"

Examples might include a campaign, event, mailing, online form, or referral source.

Best Practice

Use clear fund and source names. Avoid creating nearly identical names that will make reports harder to read.
