Lives Saved - Changed Minds Report

Which cases the Lives Saved - Changed Minds report counts, which date it uses, and why a case can move between months.

Written by Jonathan Marbutt

The Lives Saved - Changed Minds report (called Changed Minds in CoolFocus 3) lists at-risk clients who moved from considering abortion to a life-affirming decision. Find it under Reports, in the Cases group. Searching for "Changed Minds" finds it too.

Which cases are counted

A case is counted when all of these are true:

  • Its Initial Assessment is Abortion Minded or Abortion-Vulnerable.

  • The client said Abortion or Undecided, either as her Initial Intentions or as an intention recorded on a visit (after counseling or after an ultrasound).

  • Her current intention is now Parent, Adoption, or Carry.

  • Her last pregnancy test was positive.

  • The case has no outcome yet, or its outcome is a Baby born outcome, Parent, Miscarried, or No Further Needs.

The Lives Saved card is the number of cases. The Data view groups them by Initial Assessment.

If the client's Initial Intentions was Parent and she never said Abortion or Undecided, she isn't a changed mind, even if she was assessed Abortion-Vulnerable. Cases assessed Abortion Determined aren't included. A case with no Current Intentions Change Date isn't included either.

Which date is used

The Current Intentions Change Date range applies to the date the client's current intention was recorded, not to visit dates. It starts on year to date. You can also narrow it to one or more locations, which uses the case's location.

Because the date is the last time an intention was recorded, a case can move between months:

  • If the client changes from Abortion to Carry in January, she appears in January.

  • If in February she changes from Carry to Undecided, she drops off the report entirely, including January.

  • If in March she changes to Parent, she appears in March.

  • If the same intention is entered again on every visit, the date moves to the latest entry. If her intention hasn't changed, you don't need to enter it again. Recording an intention change on the case also sets the date.

For where the current intention comes from, see Assessment & Intentions History.

Compared with Location Overview

Total At-Risk Clients Carrying on Location Overview doesn't look at what the client first said she intended, so it's usually higher than Changed Minds. See Why Your Center Report Numbers Differ.
